LNC Boot Camp

June LNC Boot Camp

LNC Boot CampThe National Nurses in Business Association in partnership with Rose Clifford Internships presented the first Orlando LNC Boot Camps on June 21 and 22. The LNC Boot Camp will be repeated in Orlando, Florida, on October 11 and 12, 2008.

Clinical nurses and LNCs attended

The LNC Boot Camp showed beginning LNCs how to start and operate their consulting service. Experienced LNCs learned how to streamline their consulting service and work smarter with technology. The clinical nurses attending discovered how to use their years of nursing experience to be a legal nurse consultant. The attendees learned the ropes from two experts, Pat Bemis (president NNBA) and Rose Clifford (LNC mentor).

Interactive presentation and workshop

LNC Boot CampBemis covered all stages of business development (including startup) and offered up-to-date solutions for everyday problems, such as non-billable hours, setting fees, and keeping track of time. She showed how to work smarter with technology and how to use a virtual assistant. The marketing session included developing a 30-second elevator speech, brochures, and cold-call scripts; and reviewed what works and what doesn't work in the real world. At the end of the class, the attendees developed a plan-of-action.

LNC Boot CampClifford's 7-hour intern-like experience showed how to analyze complicated medical records for fact, merit, and the detection of fraud. The documents were real, only the names and places were changed. The attendees were working on bona-fided current cases. She showed them how to anticipate attorney needs and track billable hours. Clifford taught the general rules of what cases should be avoided and how to advise the attorneys. Real-world organizational techniques and methods were offered that decreased the time spent on each record while maintaining the quality of reports.

Networking opportunities

Networking opportunities included an informal get-together in the hotel lounge and a planned lunch at nearby restaurants on both days. The attendees were transported by the hotel shuttle and the restaurants provided a great place to network.

Listserv

LNC Boot CampA listserv is being formed exclusively for attendees of this first boot camp. Attendees of future boot camps will be added over time. The goal of the listserv is to provide a method of keeping in touch with each other and future LNC Boot Camp graduates. Sharon MacEwen has agreed to monitor the listserv.

Both Bemis and Clifford will answer questions on the listserv to graduates of the LNC Boot Camps. This is a great added value.
